So my first journey to blog about was rather a BIG one... Tuesday morning 6am I left my little hometown of White River, South Africa. Wednesday afternoon - 22 June - roughly 2:30pm, Mary and all her baggage, arrived safely in the tropical and chaotic metropolis that is Manila... I now live in the Philippines!! The journey was long, I was sick, and apart from the 4 hour stop over in Kuala Lumpur, the ride was rather colourless and uneventful. The highlight no doubt being the monster hug I received at the other end... Merci Raphael d'etre venu me chercher a l'aeroport!
I was lucky not to pay anything for my luggage being overweight (though it did take some repacking and rearranging of things on the airport floor!), needless to say I have not perfected the art of *travelling light*. With a limit of just 20kg though (and 5kg hand luggage) most would understand how I struggled - pack up your life in 25kg! That vuvuzela came all the way too, on special request.
It got me thinking about travelling light... In life too we should travel light, avoid carrying unnecessary 'baggage' that can weigh us down. Leave behind that which is of no use and 'make space' in our hearts and minds, for who knows what gems we might find along the way... and while I was thinking on this some other words came to mind:
"Come to Me all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Are you travelling light?
